I am not an expert in parenting and I am by far a perfect parent. In fact, I am learning right along with my girls...but it's tough. And sometimes it takes all I have to not just retreat to my bedroom. Alone.
One thing I do know is that I am not alone.
Recently, I was talking to my girlfriend over a nice hair cut about some of my issues with motherhood. Reality is, raising kids is hard. Right now we are dealing with attitude. I have a hard time with punishing...a really hard time being consistant. I always give in but that isn't helping any of us. Children NEED boundries. They need to know my boundries and they need to have respect. My girlfriend shared with me something she learned. She said, "My God given responsibilities as a parent are to..."
1. Make sure they are fed.
2. Make sure they have a roof over their head.
3. Make sure they have clothes on their backs.
4. And to give them ALL the love they can handle.
EVERYthing above and beyond that is a privelage. That includes video games, Ipods, Kindles, Shopping just for fun, etc...
Of course there is more to parenting but this really helped my mind set. Why should I do nice things for my children or allow them to do the fun things they enjoy if they don't treat us parents with respect? For now, I'm done trying to give them the "things" and opportunities I never had...I am going to work on a rock hard, solid foundation. It is a hard process though...and it is hard breaking bad habits. My kids will benefit and maybe...just maybe we will be able to enjoy our time together again.
I would love to know your story...parenting tip...word of encouragement...anything you have for me! Either post here or send me a message through my contact me tab! Can't wait to hear from you!!!
